Last Chance to Register for the 4th European Cybersecurity Forum – CYBERSEC 2018

Registration for the 4th European Cybersecurity Forum – CYBERSEC 2018 ends on October 4, 11.59 p.m. CYBERSEC 2018, one of the most important and biggest European conferences providing comprehensive discussion of cybersecurity crucial issues, will be held on 8-9 October, 2018 in Krakow, Poland. The Forum is organized by Polish think tank, the Kosciuszko Institute.

CYBERSEC will present numerous significant, global trends shaping the cybersecurity discussion, including the role of women in the development of ICT sector – the topic of the speech delivered by Mary-Jo de Leeuw, Co-Founder and Vice President, Women in Cyber Security Foundation.

“We want to inspire women to join this dominated by men industry and build secure cyber environment. This is, amongst others, what the future of the digital transformation depends on,” says Izabela Albrycht, Chair, The Kosciuszko Institute; President, Organising Committee of the European Cybersecurity Forum – CYBERSEC. Traditionally, presentations and panel discussions will be held in four parallel thematic streams: State, Defence, Future and Business. State Stream will be devoted to great extent to the Digital Three Seas Initiative, which aims at strengthening the co-operation concerning cybersecurity in Central and Eastern Europe and accelerating digital transformation. Other important topics discussed within this stream will cover, inter alia, building stability in cyberspace and impact of this process on international security, as well as Europe’s path towards cyberautonomy, i.e. building cybersecurity based on trust-worthy providers of products and services. Within the Defence Stream, Antonio Missiroli, Assistant Secretary General, Emerging Security Challenges, NATO, will deliver his first ever speech in Poland, discussing the resolutions of recent NATO summit held in Brussels, including decisions concerning NATO-EU co-operation on cybersecurity. Future Stream will outline futuristic vision of threats posed by cybercriminals and will confront it with plans for fighting them by law enforcement authorities, such as Europol represented by Steven Wilson, Head, European Cybercrime Centre. Finally, Business Stream will present such topics as the need to build trustworthy environment in the area of cybersecurity, safe development of 5G, or the extremely valid issue of personal data protection in the digital world. Moreover, speakers will discuss the role and potential of blockchain technology in building trust towards public and commercial digital services.

CYBERSEC will also offer special sessions discussing, amongst others, the problem of regaining trust in social platforms – an extremely important subject, particularly in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal. Another interesting format will consist in a Q&A session with recognised authors writing about security: Alexander Klimburg author of “Darkening Web - the War for Cyberspace”, Kim Zetter, award-winning journalist and author of “Countdown to Zero Day: Stuxnet and the Launch of the World's First Digital Weapon”, and Edward Lucas, author of “Cyberphobia: Identity, Trust, Security and the Internet”.

What is more, CYBERSEC organisers consider it their mission to support the growth of young talents in the cybersecurity industry. During the 2018 edition, winners of the CYBERSEC Young Leaders project will present their ideas for tackling the threats of the interconnected world.

“CYBERSEC offers extremely interesting format in the form of Innovation Hyde Park, which will enable its participants to share experience, concepts and ideas, while ICT companies and start-ups will have a chance to present their products and innovative solutions, enjoying casual, informal atmosphere,” says Robert Siudak, Director of Advocacy and Projects at the Kosciuszko Institute.

The list of this year’s guests and speakers includes extraordinary number of world-renowned experts and decision-makers, such as John Frank (Vice President, EU Government Affairs, Microsoft), Melissa Hathaway (President, Hathaway Global Strategies, LLC; Former Cybersecurity Advisor, George W. Bush and Barack Obama administrations; Expert, The Kosciuszko Institute), Ambassador Sorin Ducaru (Senior Fellow, Hudson Institute; Former Assistant Secretary General, Emerging Security Challenges, NATO), Katie Moussouris (famous hacker and pioneer of bug bounty aimed at discovering security gaps in computer software, Founder & CEO, Luta Security) and Edna Conway (Chief Security Officer, Global Value Chain, Cisco).

“Digits, Codes, Ciphers – 100 Years of Polish Independence” exhibition will provide a symbolic element accompanying the Forum. The exhibition, organised on the centenary of Poland regaining independence, will pay tribute to Polish scientists from the fields of mathematics, cryptography and computer science. The organisers will introduce and appreciate the contribution of Polish cryptographers in cracking the Enigma code. The famous Enigma, coming from the collection of the Polish Intelligence Agency, will constitute one of the exhibits, while the families of Polish cryptographers, Marian Rejewski, Jan Różycki and Henryk Zygalski, will be the exhibition’s special guests. Moreover, Sir Dermot Turing will come to Krakow and promote his latest book, “X,Y&Z, The Real Story of How Enigma was Broken”, where he describes the history of cracking the German ciphers by Polish cryptographers. “Digits, Codes, Ciphers – 100 Years of Polish Independence” will be available free of charge in the Czeczotka Palace, Krakow between 29 September and 12 October.

CYBERSEC 2017 brought together record-breaking 150 speakers and more than 1,000 delegates from all over the world. Among them were representatives of governments, policy-makers, leading investors, and representatives of technology start-ups.
